"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something
to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me
clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you
visited me."
--Matthew 25:35-36,
At St. David's
we
are involved in many acts of reaching out; clearly
extending services/activities beyond the “usual” limit.
Examples abound. We rent space to community groups and
another religious organization at below-market rates;
we provide meals to groups that are in need; we provide
clothing and sundry items for those in need; we provide
food coupons to those in need; we bring religious
services to the shut-ins; we help provide needed gifts
to local and international communities in need; we
provide support services to families at risk. More on Outreach
Food Pantry
Every Sunday is Food Pantry Sunday! Please
bring non-perishable food items, toiletries and paper products for
Kinnelon’s Food Pantry to help our neighbors in need. Grocery gift cards
are also welcome.
The Millennium Development Fund
One billion people live on less than $1.00 a
day. That’s roughly one out of every six people on the planet! Could you?
Probably not! Is anybody doing anything to eradicate poverty and make the
world a better place? The answer is yes!
At the start of the new millennium, leaders from
191 nations, including the United States, agreed on a plan to cut extreme
global poverty in half by 2015. Together, they created the Millennium
Development Goals (MDG’s). Development is about freedom from misery and
suffering, hunger, illiteracy, disease, poor housing and insecurity. The
Millennium Development Goals are:
-
Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
-
Achieve universal primary education for
children
-
Promote gender equality and empower women
-
Reduce child mortality
-
Improve maternal health
-
Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
-
Ensure environmental sustainability
-
Create a global partnership for
development
Fulfilling the MDG’s would mean lifting more
than 500 million people out of extreme poverty. More than 300 million would
no longer suffer from hunger. Child health would improve, saving the lives
of more than 30 million children under the age of five. Learn more:
